Tips on Apartment Hunting In Chicago

Sometimes a last minute move will completely catch you off-guard. Moving to other areas, especially to one that will require you to hire a moving company on a last minute basis can drive anyone crazy but of all cities to move in a hurry, better be it Chicago!

Chicago has many wonderful places that can be rented on short notice. This is because most landlords opt to put up rent signs than post the vacancies over internet ads like Craiglist. Aside from that, most of these places can be rented in minimum rental price saving you rent money. The best thing you can do, as the mover, is to just walk around the areas you feel like settling in and most probably, you will find one or two rent signs somewhere around the block. This way, you’ll also be able to experience the place firsthand. Just beware of rent signs attached firmly on apartment walls as they may or may not have an available unit for you as of the moment.

However, if you are given months to prepare for your Chicago move, it is best to familiarize yourself with the neighborhood in general. Study maps, consult locals and make short trips down there. Don’t make hasty decisions as there’s never a shortage of places to rent in Chicago. You can also do without leasing companies since most of them will tie you down to undesirable contracts. Leasing companies are quite popular around Chicago areas and boast of easy moving experience since they will do all the legwork in finding an apartment for you.

Are you planning to move to Chicago but still having a hard time choosing the right home for you? Why don’t you check Chicago condos then? Chicago condos are the best deals in the market today. You can either rent one to try it out or you can opt to buy your own if renting seems too temporary for you. Chicago condos come in different sizes and shapes to perfectly suit your needs right from singles up to retirees of the Windy city. It caters to people from all walks of life.

Actually, condo renting in Chicago is not so bad. Many people opt to do so because condos are very low maintenance. All you need is to keep your own unit clean and tidy as possible while you don’t have to worry about security and cleanliness outside of your own condo unit—someone will take care of that for you! All condo unit renters pay monthly and annual fees for these kinds of maintenance work. This is very convenient for unit owners who don’t have enough time to attend to their place and maintain a lifestyle of come and go. You can also move anytime you want, if you are not satisfied with your current unit because contact of lease for condo units is shorter than apartments and houses–great for people who are always on the move.

Condos are quick to gain popularity around Chicago because of its convenience and ease of use. You can never go wrong with a condo; you can live there, rent it out or sell it if you want. Condos are faster to sell as they can be bought quite easily.

Windy City or Sunny Beaches

It’s been established that moving is always chaotic. However, choosing the best location for your permanent residence is always fun and exciting. For example, the busy city, right under New York on the list, is the infamous windy city Chicago, Illinois. This notorious city, which was once the home of our current president Barrack Obama has so much to offer through it’s vastly growing urban neighborhoods. However, this stunning city has a large rate of cold weather each year that brings snow. So if you would classify your self more of a ‘warmth’ person, then maybe Florida is your future home to be.

The city that is famous for it’s beautiful beaches and known as the San Francisco of Florida is that of Tampa, FL. This majestic city is also known as one of the cleanest cities in the United States. This city has a lot to offer and the last snowstorm reported here was in the early 1900’s. However, maybe you’re afraid of Hurricanes! If so, then maybe the Windy City of Chicago does sound better to you.

No matter where you decide to move, there will always be something that negative about the area. However, its best to choose what you think will make your life more tranquil, rather then hectic. So if you’re the type of person who likes the cold weather and the individuality of each snow flake then Chicago would be the best new home for you.

On the other hand, you may want to live somewhere that is like a vacation everyday. Somewhere that when you come home from work, you can go to the beach located around the corner from where you just moved. Once you find the perfect city to call home, you can then find the finest moving company that is trustworthily of your possessions to travel to your final destination.

Students moving to Chicago

When I was a student, I thought moving was just a breeze, or so I thought. I was so naïve that I thought everything would be easy. I would just have to pack my things and I am ready to go.

My parents wanted me to be independent so even if they already know the pains of moving, they let me be. Apparently they want me to learn the hard way. I will be studying in Chicago and I have to move in there.

All in all, my moving experience is really a disaster. I thought moving to Chicago was a breeze so I didn’t bother to hire Chicago moving companies or even read those moving guides in the internet. I thought my friends who have moved in Chicago already is just overreacting when they are sharing their moving tips to me.

While I am packing my things, the day that I will be moving that is the day when I realized that I would need the assistance of a Chicago moving companies. But its all too late, the opening of school is nearing so almost all the trustworthy moving company our landlady suggested could not accommodate me.

I am so desperate that I finally succumb to contacting a mover through the internet. A big mistake indeed, I should have known better and postponed my move instead. But it is all too late, that fraudulent company overcharged me and broke my stuff.

Since I am only a student, they even threaten me that they would run away with my stuff if I would not agree with the price that they wanted me to pay. It is really a nightmare.

So, for all those students moving to Chicago or someplace else, the advice remains, be prepared. I am not over reacting when I am telling these experiences of mine, they are but sad and sorry truths that I have to experience in order to learn how it is to plan a move.

Prepare, that is the least that you can do. Do remember that if you fail to prepare then you are preparing to fail.
